Recruitment for Entrepreneurs

Entrepreneurs know that they need to recruit people if they want to grow their businesses but don’t.

They sign up for business growth seminars, they read all  the “ how to grow a successful business” bestseller books like the E-Myth, Think and Grow Rich, Diary of a CEO, you know the ones – we’ve all got them on our audio book list or on our bookshelves, sometimes we’ve even read them and yet……..

Even though they know – they absolutely know, that their business WILL NOT grow without employing people, they hold back.

In my experience specialising with business owners in their early days of recruiting, the biggest hurdle I have to overcome is not – Can they afford my recruitment services? Will they pay for my services?

But way before that…..Are THEY THEMSELVES READY TO RECRUIT SOMEONE INTO THEIR BUSINESS?

What do I mean READY?

All these boxes have to be ticked:
·      Is there enough work for another person in my business?
·      Do I know exactly what I want them to do?
·      Will I trust them to do a good job or will I always be checking that they are doing it exactly the same way as me?
·      Am I organised enough to be accountable to someone else in my business
·      Will I be able to pay them until they become effective in the business?
·      Do I know how I am going to evaluate if they are doing a good job?
·      Do I have the courage to let them go QUICKLY and FAIRLY if they are not good enough?
·      Can I be a good enough manager? Trainer?

And sometimes a business owner who is already employing people needs to recruit someone into the business to bring in expertise that they don’t have and this takes a lot of consideration too. It’s a big step, paying a significant salary to take your business to that next level – sometimes we are not paying ourselves that much yet!

Can you see how many of these questions can be answered by addressing our mindset?  By building our own confidence?

By being sure about what we want for our future and brave enough to step up and take it?

And the rest is about structure and planning, and expertise that you can buy in, theory that you can learn but if you haven’t addressed your mindset issues……..

If these boxes are not ticked –

Noone should be recruiting for you, and you shouldn’t be hiring someone because your new hire will not succeed.
